1. Overview of AI Image Studio

AI Image Studio is an AI-powered image management tool that helps merchants quickly identify, review, and replace images across their storefront. The system automatically scans the page, detects image placeholders within different sections (such as Slideshows, Banners, Collections, Products, and more), and displays their current status in a centralized interface.

1.1 Accessing AI Image Studio

To access AI Image Studio:

From your Shopify Admin, navigate to Apps.
Open Nitro AI Store Builder.
Select AI Image Studio from the left navigation menu.

The AI Image Studio dashboard will open, where you can configure your brand context, manage available AI credits, select a theme and template to scan, and generate AI-powered replacement images for your storefront.

1.2 AI Image Studio Dashboard

The AI Image Studio dashboard serves as the starting point for scanning and replacing images across your storefront.

Brand Context

The Brand Context section allows you to define your store's brand identity and visual direction. AI uses this information when generating images to ensure consistency with your products, industry, target audience, and overall brand style.

You can:

Enter or update your brand description.
Save changes manually.
Click Re-analyze from store to automatically regenerate the brand context based on your store content.

AI Credits

The AI Credits panel displays your current credit usage and remaining balance for the billing period.

This section includes:

Credit status.
Credits used during the current month.
Remaining available credits.
Monthly credit reset information.

Theme & Template Selection

Before scanning images, select the theme and page template you want to work with.

Options include:

Theme – Choose the Shopify theme to scan.
Template – Select the page template (Home page, Collection page, Product page, etc.).

AI Image Studio will scan the selected template and identify all replaceable images available for editing.

Scan & Re-scan

Once a theme and template are selected, the system displays:

Number of images detected.
Last scan date.
Re-scan button to refresh image detection after theme updates or content changes.

Continue to Editor

Click Continue to Editor to open the image replacement workspace, where all detected images can be reviewed, generated, and replaced using AI.

Recent Activity

The Recent Activity section provides a history of your latest AI image replacement actions. It allows you to quickly review previously modified templates and restore original images when needed.

This feature makes it easy to track recent edits, compare results, and undo image replacements without manually editing theme files. All changes are backed up automatically, providing a safer and more flexible editing workflow.

If you are not satisfied with a replacement result, simply click the Restore button next to a recent activity record. Nitro AI Image Studio will restore the original images associated with that replacement session, allowing you to safely experiment with different AI-generated results.

How It works

AI Image Studio simplifies the image replacement process into three steps:

1. Pick an Image

Browse all detected images within the selected template and choose the image you want to replace.

2. Describe Your Vision

Select the image type, style, and generation options, then enter a prompt or use Surprise Me to generate prompt suggestions automatically.

3. Apply with One Click

Generate and apply the new image directly to your theme. Changes can be reverted later through the history and undo functionality.

2. Image Replacement Options

When an image placeholder is selected, AI Image Studio opens a dedicated image generation panel that provides advanced controls for creating a replacement image tailored to the selected section and layout.

2.1 Generate Mode

Users can choose Generate to create a brand-new image using AI. The system automatically detects the selected image slot, recommended dimensions, and section type to help generate content that fits the layout.

Users can easily browse all detected images, filter them by status (All, Replaced, or Empty), and view recommended image dimensions for each location. The visual preview panel allows users to see exactly where each image appears on the storefront before making any changes.

2.2 Image Size

Select the desired aspect ratio and output format:

Landscape (16:9) – Ideal for hero banners, slideshows, and promotional sections.
Square (1:1) – Suitable for collections, product grids, and category images.
Portrait (4:5) – Optimized for mobile-focused and vertical content.
Wide Banner (3:1) – Designed for announcement bars and wide promotional banners.
Tall (9:16) – Best for mobile hero images and vertical campaigns.
Custom – Manually define image dimensions to meet specific design requirements.

2.3 Subject Type

Define the primary focus of the generated image:

Product – Highlights individual products with a commercial and sales-oriented presentation.
Lifestyle – Places products in real-world usage scenarios to create emotional engagement.
Banner – Generates marketing-oriented visuals suitable for hero sections and promotional campaigns.
Background – Creates decorative backgrounds without emphasizing specific products.
Editorial – Produces magazine-style and storytelling-focused imagery.
Flat Lay – Generates top-down compositions commonly used in eCommerce and social media content.

2.4 Style Presets

Apply a visual style to guide the AI generation:

Minimalist – Clean, simple compositions with minimal distractions.
Luxury – Premium aesthetics with sophisticated visual elements.
Vibrant – Bright colors and energetic compositions.
Editorial – Fashion and magazine-inspired creative direction.
Natural – Organic lighting and realistic environments.
Modern – Contemporary design trends and clean visual presentation.

2.5 Reference Images

Users can upload up to four reference images to help guide the generation process. Reference images may include:

Product photos
Lifestyle images
Brand color references
Packaging images
Logos and icons

These references help the AI better understand the brand identity, product appearance, and visual direction while maintaining creative flexibility.

2.6 Image Description

Provide a custom text prompt describing the desired image. Examples include:

“Yoga mat displayed in a bright modern fitness studio.”
“Minimalist skincare product banner with soft natural lighting.”
“Luxury watch photographed on a premium marble surface.”

The more detailed the description, the more accurately the AI can generate the intended visual.

Surprise Me button: Generate AI-powered prompt suggestions automatically based on the selected image type, style, layout, and theme context. The generated prompts are added directly to the prompt field, allowing users to quickly explore creative ideas, refine the prompt, or generate new variations without writing prompts from scratch. This feature helps speed up image creation and provides inspiration when users are unsure how to describe their desired image.

2.7 Credit Usage

Each generated image consumes a predefined number of credits. The required credit amount is displayed before generation, allowing users to manage their available balance effectively.

AI Image Studio uses a credit-based system for image generation and editing.

Each AI-generated image consumes 1 credit.
Each editing or retouching operation (such as Background Cleanup, Object Swap, Style Transfer, Magic Eraser, and other AI-powered modifications) also consumes 1 credit when applied.
The required credit amount is displayed before the action is performed, allowing users to monitor and manage their available balance.
Credits are deducted only after the generation or editing request is successfully processed.

This credit system ensures that users can freely generate, refine, and optimize images while maintaining full visibility of their credit usage.

2.8 Generating the Image

After configuring the image settings and clicking Generate, AI Image Studio begins creating a new image based on the selected options, prompt, reference images, and brand context.

During the generation process, a progress panel is displayed to keep users informed of the current status.

Generation Stages

The generation workflow consists of three stages:

Analyzed – AI analyzes the selected image location, layout requirements, brand context, prompt, and generation settings.
Generating – AI creates a new image optimized for the selected section and image dimensions.
Final – The generated image is processed and prepared for preview and application to the theme.

Generation Progress

A progress indicator displays the current generation status in real time, allowing users to monitor the process while the storefront preview remains visible in the background.

Cancel Generation

Users can click Cancel generation at any time before completion if they wish to stop the current generation process and adjust their settings or prompt.

Smart Layout Preservation

During generation, AI considers the original image placement, section layout, and content positioning to help ensure the generated image fits naturally within the selected area of the storefront.

Once generation is complete, the newly created image is displayed for review, where users can compare it with the original image, make adjustments, regenerate variations, or apply it directly to the theme.

Compare Before Applying

Before applying a generated image to the theme, users can click Click to Compare to open a larger preview window and review the AI-generated result in more detail.

2.9 Edit & Retouch

After generating a new image, users can switch to the Edit & Retouch tab to further refine the result before applying it to the storefront.

This tab provides a set of AI-powered editing tools that allow users to enhance, modify, or customize the generated image without creating a new one from scratch.

Available Editing Tools

Clean Background – Remove distracting backgrounds and place the subject on a cleaner, more professional backdrop.
Mood & Season – Adjust lighting, atmosphere, weather conditions, or seasonal themes to better match the campaign.
Style Transfer – Apply a different visual style while preserving the main subject and composition.
Object Swap – Replace specific elements within the image with alternative objects or products.
Add Text – Generate and embed marketing text directly into the image.
Magic Eraser – Remove unwanted objects, elements, or distractions from the image.

Iterative Editing Workflow

Users can perform multiple editing actions on the same image until the desired result is achieved. Each edit generates an updated version while maintaining compatibility with the selected image slot and layout requirements.

Apply Changes to Theme

Once satisfied with the final result, users can click Apply to Theme to replace the original storefront image with the edited version. The updated image is immediately associated with the selected section and becomes available for preview before publishing.

This workflow enables users to generate, refine, and apply high-quality images directly within AI Image Studio without leaving the editor.

2.10 Preview, Save & Change Management

After generating and applying images, AI Image Studio provides several tools to help users review, manage, and publish their changes safely.

Preview

Click Preview to view how the updated images will appear on the storefront before publishing. This allows users to verify image placement, layout consistency, and overall visual appearance across the selected page.

Save

Once satisfied with the generated and edited images, click Save to apply all pending changes to the selected theme. Changes are saved directly to the theme and become available for storefront preview and publishing.

Image Counter

The Images indicator displays the total number of detected image slots within the currently selected template. This helps users track the scope of the page and identify which images have already been updated.

Credit Balance

The Credits indicator displays the number of remaining AI credits available for image generation and editing operations.

Device Preview

The Device Preview option allows users to switch between different viewport sizes, helping verify how generated images appear across desktop and mobile devices.

Refresh Preview

Click Refresh Preview to reload the storefront preview and ensure the latest image changes are reflected in the editor.

Change History

AI Image Studio automatically maintains a history of saved image updates.

Each time changes are saved:

A restore point is created automatically.
Previous image versions are preserved.
Users can review past saved versions.
Earlier versions can be restored if needed.

This functionality provides an additional layer of protection, allowing users to experiment with AI-generated content while maintaining the ability to revert to previous versions at any time.
